Our First Breath

Hey Everyone-
As promised, travel blog is up and active. Sean and I are killin' time at the DC airport utilizing our 8 hour layover before flying out tonight to Frankfurt. These last several days have been a whirlwind of countryside, gas station dining, family reunions, laundry, and attempting to sleep in an upright
position (which Nature never intended). Our car was packed well beyond what was certainly intended with Sean's PA in the trunk, clothes, gutiar, recording equipment, kitty stuff in the backseat, bikes on the bike rack, and, of course, the espresso machine and grinder crammed into whatever available space was left over. And with all the momentum to get out of town, rushing to clean the studio and throwing the last remnants of our life in Denver in boxes, it's
hard to slow down even now. Every morning, we review our To-Do list still. But now we're here, forced to slow our brains down to a reasonable "vacation" pace. Sean's songwriting on his new parlor guitar, and I'm trying to be interesting ;)

To my Chicago Peeps, I'm soooo sorry that we didn't have time to see everyone. Our schedule was tight making social visits fairly impossible. But we did get a good 1/2 day with my mom, and stopped by Tommy's place for a brief tour of his digs and some Intelligensia coffee. Ohio was a madhouse, but SO glad we went. My step-mother's sister was in from En
gland with her family for her HS reunion, and so the entire DeLuna clan came out for the event. Excellent ;) Thank you DeLuna's for tasty food, margs, and nice family time!! The drive south was pretty uneventful aside from Labor Day traffic. Ziggy was our greatest source of entertainment (as usual). He does NOT like open spaces... at all. He was at his most relaxed chillin' in his litter box. Nonetheless, we'd force him to hang out with us the front seat, if anything so he wasn't sitting in his own sh%t for the entire car ride. He was nicknamed "The Peanut Butter Cat" in honor
of the manner in which we had to literally peel him from the inside of that plastic box. It took about 5 tries on average, and the force that was necessary to extract him bordered on animal abuse. He's better now that he's been in the house for the last day or so. Even so, if I carry him anywhere NEAR a door, he starts to get anxious. I guess it can't be helped. But we snuggled with him as per usual last night. I'm REALLY going to miss my cat. Is that dorky? (As a side note, this is the funniest picture we EVER got of Ziggy. He is truly the most mellow, submissive cat ever. Sean started playing Postal Service in the car, and so like any good cat owner, I made Zig start dancing against his will and this is what resulted. It makes us crack up EVERY time.)

To my Denver peeps, no matter how "humid" you think it is in Colorado before the rain, it isn't. FLORIDA IS HUMID!! Beyond stupid humid!! Everything weeps it's so obnoxiously hot and humid!! So I NEVER want to hear ANY of you complain about the weather ever, ever, ever again, GOT IT!! Ahhhh.... Stupid humidity aside, our time in the Sunshine State was a great transition. We unpacked and settled in to our new room at my mother-in-law's house for our return, and finished with a really nice dinner with Sean's folks. And here we are now, relaxing in the airport, ticking off items on our To-Do List...

Signing off for now... C&S

  1. Poor little Zig. I'm glad you guys are off on an adventure of a lifetime! I hope nobody told Ziggy he's in for another horrible drive in a few months. I do love that picture of him though. Good luck and please send wine and beer reviews of the best ones you try out there. Love ya, and miss you already.
