Whaddup Everybodee-
This post marks our 2nd night here in Frankfurt, and a nice end to a thoroughly lazy day... excellent. Sean and I have received our crash-course in hostel life over the last 2 days. Benefits thus far... a nice steady supply of English-speaking cohorts, VERY friendly staff, very reasonably priced, and prime location located near several Döner Kabob vendors (as well as several sex-themed establishments). We've met some really nice folks thus far from all over the world ranging from job seekers to college students to wandering souls. Last night, we joined the masses for a pub crawl all over Frankfurt
which consisted of first grabbing a beer at a local liquor store (you can carry open booze around town), a couple shots of some super sweet berry liquor along the river, and then finishing off with 2-3 brews at a couple bars. Mental note folks, if you like dark beer, Frankfurt is not for you. Pilsner... Everywhere. Not bad, but certainly not my preference.
So the Bad started with a sweet young thing who'd been fired from her job decided to get Wasted... emphasis on Wasted. She couldn't walk upright. It was more like she was bowing to everyone all the time. Luckily, there was a couple heading back to the hostel in a cab who was able to haul her back. Unfortunately in the mean time, she took it upon herself to micro-vomit all over Sean's pillow and comforter while moaning uncontrollably while our other roommates were trying to sleep. The key moment was when she tried to bathe in the toilet. I mean literally strip down and had her foot in the toilet. No joke. And don't get me wrong, Sean and I were on it trying to take care of this woman for about an hour. The quote the next day was, "I feel like Death." I completely believe her.
Today was recuperation for both Sean and myself, catching up on sleep and coping with the time change. Otherwise, it was 5 or 6 hours of walking around the city and doing some grocery shopping. Not sure what the plan for tomorrow is, but honestly, we don't care :)
Impressions thus far of Frankfurt...
1. Apparently tall buildings are somewhat of a rarity here in Germany. Frankfurt's known for having several, but still far less then Denver.
2. EVERYONE speaks English. Many signs are conveniently in English. Sean's still indispensable for translating menus and getting us around.
3. Lots and lots and lots of bikes everywhere! Bike lanes are in the streets and on the sidewalks. But with gas at $5-6/gallon, who can blame them. The favorite styles by far are old cruisers, and hybrids.
4. Lots of reconstruction going on right now in that there don't appear to be many very old buildings.
I'm going to post up some pics on FB, so check those out when you get a chance. Sean and I are planning to head back out for some music tonight so... Cheers!
Chris
A pub crawl sounds like a good way to overcome jet lag. It's always good when your not the one taking a bath in the toilet! Keep living the dream.
